Okavango Delta: Supermodel
If a leopard could “work it,” this large female did just that! Our guides were integral in making this already fantastic shoot even better by rotating the vehicles in and out of various positions so each photographer could get their own version of this stunning scene.
Okavango Delta: Proud Papa
It’s my daughter Alexis' first time on safari with me and it has been absolutely wonderful to spend time with her in the Delta. She did a great job at capturing two hippos during an emotional discussion today. I’m very proud of her photography skills and have really enjoyed watching her improve during this trip.
Okavango Delta: Sundown with African Wild Dogs
Spotting African wild dogs (or African painted dogs), in this area of the Delta is rare – there are less than 3,000 wild dogs in all of Africa. We ended our day spending the last light with these special animals.
Okavango Delta: Finding Contrast in Camouflage
When wildlife is hunting in stealth mode, photography opportunities can be a challenge – you can see how well the cheetah is camouflaged in this environment. Mitch’s approach to focus on the cat’s eyes through the tall grasses proved to be an effective strategy.
Okavango Delta: Guest photographer Steve Kruger
Steve Kruger, my co-lead for this trip, captured this photo of a leopard cub crawling around a termite mound. The cub stopped for a split second to look Steve in the eye; Steve snapped the shutter at the precise moment.
Okavango Delta: No cell bars; lots of spots!
While the remote Okavango Delta hasn’t offered an abundance of cell service, it’s more than made up for it with multiple, quality leopard sightings, all in day one.
Botswana - Okavango Delta
I’m kicking off what’s sure to be another great safari here in Botswana. We’ll be at Little Vumbura, an island camp in the northern Delta, for the next four days. Have a look at this fantastic tented camp, complete with private plunge pools, views of the floodplains, and great service.
Using Reflections in Wildlife Photography
Using reflections in wildlife photography can add emotion and an extra dimension to your images. Read how I define the three types of reflections and what works for me.
Stari Most, Bosnia & Herzegovina
Stari Most is a 16th-century Ottoman bridge in the city of Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina that crosses the Neretva River connecting the two parts of the city. Read more about this bridge and Suleiman the Magnificent.
The Church of Saint Mary of Nazareth
Photographing the Church of Saint Mary of Nazareth at the Discalced Carmelites in Venice, was like stepping back in time. Not having a Tilt-Shift adapter for my Hasselblad, this single shot image required a significant amount of Photoshop work to correct the tilt distortion resulting from shooting upward. Read on about the history of this church and the two photographs that I walked away with. If I had only looked up.
